Reflection
Reflection:
Looking back at my time as a GESC scholar, I can say that this program has given me the opportunity to have a more well-rounded education. The GESC program has pulled my attention to certain courses and discussions that I may have otherwise not considered taking advantage of. In taking these courses and attending various dialogues I can see how my interests have been shaped. I think that the exposure that I have gained in pursuing the GESC has also planted a few seeds that I will continue to watch over in college! I think that this program is not perfect, but good work is being done to improve the program. I am certain that in the future, more Loomis students will look forward to becoming global and environmental scholars. I am positive that there will be many great outcomes to come from this. I believe that my class' portfolios are just the beginning of our mark as GESC participants.
Covid-19 Series:
For my extension of my online portfolio I choose to watch Dr. Chen's webinar titled Medical Systems Constraints and Opportunities. Of the series that I attended, I enjoyed this one the most. I thought that Dr. Chen presentation brought up a serious and relevant case study, that of Joe Pelican, while also tying in important things to recognize in these difficult times. Throughout her presentation, Dr. Chen spoke of the many limitations that exist within this pandemic. Race, income, and access to medicare are all dividing us more than ever. It is clear that the more privileged are less affected by this pandemic than others. I think that after we return to a some sort of normal, there will be a lot to reconsider. Like Dr. Chen, I hope that access to testing, health care, and preventative treatments will all be among some of these things.
