A Few Highlights

Social Psychology:
- This class was the first time I dived into the effects humans have on our planet. As I learned about climate change I was able to make two videos which I have linked here and here. One on a new and innovated idea called Vertical Forests and another questioning how much better plant milk is for our environment.
Ceramics I:
- Taking ceramics I was probably one of the best decisions in my entire Loomis career. Without knowing it, I picked up a new found hobby! In this class I have experimented with a wide range of artistic styles including relief sculptures as shown below.
Contemporary Literature:
- This spring, amid the spreading of Covid-19, I have had the great pleasure of reading Pulitzer Prize winning Colson Whitehead's The Nickel Boys. To give you a taste of the plot I have included some of my favorite quotes from the novel below. The Nickel Boys is a 2019 novel by American novelist and writer Colson Whitehead. It was based on the real story of the Dozier School, a reform school in Florida that operated for 111 years and had its history exposed by a university's investigation. It was named one of TIME'S best books of the decade.
- Quotes to Consider:
- “He who gets behind in a race must forever remain behind or run faster than the man in front.”
- “We must believe in our souls that we are somebody, that we are significant, that we are worthful, and we must walk the streets of life every day with this sense of dignity and this sense of somebody-ness.”
- “You can change the law but you can’t change people and how they treat each other.”
- “If it is true for you, it is true for someone else, and you are no longer alone.”
- “He was all of them in one black body that night in the ring, and all of them when the shite men took him out back to those two iron rings.”
- “He who gets behind in a race must forever remain behind or run faster than the man in front.”
Social Psychology:
- Speaking of the incarceration system in America, here is my social psychology final that emerged after visiting the Osborn Correctional Facility in Somers, CT. This visit was certainly thought provoking.
